Amy Kulbok

MACC, LPC, NCC, BC-TMH

I have a Masters of Christian Counseling degree which I earned from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (GCTS) in January, 2017. GCTS offers a masters level counseling program that is in process to be accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

My degree program puts forth an integrated approach to therapy, which means that my psychotherapy practices are in line with my Christian theology. It does not mean that I practice explicit Christian counseling, but it does mean that my approach to therapy is in keeping with my faith. I am always happy to discuss what that means for therapy. Additionally, I am happy to incorporate faith into therapy if that is something you are interested in exploring. My training included biblical and theological studies as well as clinical counseling.

As a former counseling staff member at Winthrop University's Health and Counseling Services, I have extensive experience working with college students, although my practice gladly accepts all older teen and adult clients (17+). I am well versed in the treatment of trauma and PTSD. Other areas of professional experience include the following therapeutic concerns: anxiety, personality disorders, mood disorders, existential and identity issues, developmental disorders (including ADHD and autism), psychosomatic symptoms, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and relationship difficulties.

My general approach to therapy is eclectic but largely incorporates elements of brief psychodynamic and systems theories. I utilize psychoeducation to inform and elicit change, as well as talk therapy to seek patterns of behavior that are evident in relationships and personal narratives. I also use art and experiential interventions to create insight and encourage expressiveness. The basis of my practice is rooted in the promise of hope. I believe that we are all capable of moving toward healthier versions of ourselves that can result in more functional emotional responses, deeper, more satisfying relationships, and redeemed living. My goal is to be a helper that provides a safe place to begin to move toward positive change.
